Snazzy little gadgets

Hello there!

Yes, I am still alive…

The last few weeks have been pretty busy and now I do nothing else with my time apart from teeline, how exciting.

Over the last few weeks however I have been building up a nice little pile of work experience placements which I’m pretty happy about.

So far i have a week at the Colchester gazette, two weeks at the teenage magazine bliss and then my six-week internship at YOU, then hopefully I will get at least two more from my course :)

Regarding lessons, not a great deal of interesting things have been happening, it’s all past exam papers and boring stuff like that now.

Last Tuesday we had a lecture from Sarah Booker about how to use online technology’s to improve our online articles such as google maps, storify, live blogging and polls etc. This was pretty interesting actually as I love all those little gadgets like that.

Here is my little map I made of places I’ve been :)

How cute, Sarah liked the photo of me in Zante best haha!

I’ve also started a little storify that I can add as a page to my blog to give you visual story of my journey into journalism as I go along but its taking quite a while to catch up and get it done properly but it is getting there…

We had a law mock exam on Monday which wasn’t really very nice, theyre sooooooooo long and repetative, not looking forward to that one.

Today we’ve had a bit of a change and we’ve had an afternoon of Production Journalism.

It’s more up my street than reporting even though I do like writing but being creative on programmes like Photoshop and QuarkXPress is more me.

Today we had a crash course in subbing and using QuarkXpress which is all pretty self explanatory as its very much like photoshop. The subbing side of things however isn’t very fun when you’re terrible at spelling :(

The countdown to 60wpm is in full swing and it’s only two weeks tomorrow ahhhhhh!

So next time I probably write on here i will have either failed or passed, god only knows what the outcome will be…

I may not even make it after the weekend partying in london i have in store this week!

Pizza, Placements and Perverts?

Good eveninggggggg.

I’m on a roll tonight, so motivated for once I think I may do some intense teeline after this!

WOW

I’ll start with last weeks planning meeting.

IT WAS SHIT.

Moving on… haha only joking, I’m going to be completely honest though, it was one of the most boring 2 hours of my life. It was like watching paint dry. Some of the questions councillors ask are ridiculous. However I was a little disappointed that the pizza shop wouldn’t be staying open for longer. Those councillors need to consider us students more instead of themselves all the the time, when we’re out we need somewhere to eat on the stumble home and not everyone eats skanky kebab.

But anyway the planning meeting is now all written up and ready to be handed in tomorrow.

Today we went to the crown court. It started slow but then we ended up in a sexual assault case. The actions were hardly sexual assault so I feel a little sorry if the guy who did or didn’t do it but it just shows how pathetic and over reacting some people are these days. After having a little jealous moan to the guys about how they all wrote in teeline and I couldn’t do it I managed to get a page down in teeline and I could actually understand it when I read it back in class! Our first exam is in 4 weeks and to say I am shitting it is an understatement.

I can’t wait until BJW actually take a nice photo of me. They always catch me off guard or mid sentence :(

This evening I’ve been a busy little bee.

After being told a little more about our work placements earlier today I’ve been doing some research into the places I want to go. Also over the last week I have been collecting interviews from people for my Olympic feature and I have so many different angles from all the interviews that could be good to write about I don’t know where to start. I could actually get a few features out of all the information I have from people. I think with one of them though I’ve struck gold, however I can’t tell you about that just yet.

Everything is getting more exciting by the day!

Toodaloo.

One step closer…

yay

Hello. Another week is here and surprise surprise I’m just as busy as the last. The end of last week was extremely good for me as I managed to get myself an intern-ship at the Mail on Sundays You Magazine, woohooo! I am sooooo excited. It’s not until … Continue reading

Morning. I know it’s not the morning but as you all may know from the lovely photo Amy uploaded on Facebook, I have in actual fact just woken up. Its tiring being a trainee journalist, all I’ve done for the last 2 nights is sleep for an hour … Continue reading

Thank god it’s Friday, its been a crazy week!

Why hello there.

Thank god its Friday ey!

I know I say this every week but I can’t believe how fast this week has gone.

This week has been pretty eventful to say the least…

After blogging Monday night, Tuesday we had a morning of short hand then a whole afternoon of reporting. In reporting we were doing phone interviews which was quite funny because it felt like I was a little kid pretending to be on the phone to my brother again. Before doing my actual phone interview with one of the tutors, I actually did a real one for some information about my patch stories.

Wednesday bought a morning of PA and an afternoon of tee-line finishing early at 4 (thank god). Thursday was the most interesting day because after much hassle and many emails backwards and forwards to Sarah I finally got my first two patch stories uploaded to the site- woohoo! It felt pretty good to see your own work on a newspapers website :)

Ok they may not be the most exciting stories, but you have to work your way from the bottom, anything is better than nothing!

Something else that got me quite excited this week was the release of ios6, yep, I know, incredibly sad, but after buying an iPad Sunday I was even more excited. I though as I am now a serious journalist, I should probably equipped myself with all the funky journal gadgets i’ll need for the big city and it was defiantly worth it! I’ve found a new found love for the Flipboard app, I just can’t get enough of it and I’ve already written blogs and an editorial on it for my mother (just proving it’s not a waste of money!).

Update on the house front, after posting my blog Monday night the lovely Puja from my course informed me of a room in her house that’s coming available in the next few weeks- its huge! It’s like having my own apartment at the top of the house. I even has its own whole bathroom to itself, and it’s only a 15 minute walk from college- happy days! The only problem is that I can’t move in until the 7th… and my current land lady wants me out asap, so tomorrow I’m actually moving in with Amy for a week or so hahaha! What a nightmare, but I should be ok in the end.

Anyway, I think I’ve updated you about the past week enough, I’m pretty excited about this weekend however, it’s my first weekend staying in Brighton and it’ll be my first night out here then Sunday I’m spending the day in London with my muchly missed boyfriend YAY!

Have a good weekend :)

So I've just been on my way home in the car and a song came on the radio.

Turns out it was by Jessica Wright from TOWIE- Mark Wrights sister.

As a new entry I was amazed to find out that it is already number 27 in the charts.

However it just me or am I not the only one that thinks celebrities from these new type of reality shows should just stick to them.

Week 3 already?!

Hey there!

So, it’s week three already…

Last week went so quickly, on Friday, Monday only felt like yesterday!

It’s getting to the end of September now as well and you can defiantly feel winters coming because it’s gotten so cold.

its cold, i look like a mushroom…

I suppose the weeks are going so quickly because we’re all always so busy. Many of us have found stories for our patches now, many of us have nearly fallen asleep in lesson by now because we’re up till early hours of the morning doing work and many of us have all settled down with the twitter banter. It was all so new and exciting in the first week, if anyone else’s twitter was like mine it was going crazy every five minutes, and it didn’t help all the notifications come through to my phone as well!

Come to think of it, in the last week we’ve learnt an awful lot. We can now write word groupings in tee-line which is pretty cool, we’ve learnt a lot about the law behind the media, we’ve learnt that the House of Commons is crazy in our weekly viewing of Prime Ministers questions and most of us can now write pretty decent intros for our stories. A few of us have even had pieces and reports published in the Argus already which is quite an achievement and it’s always nice to see our class mates do well.

It’s been quite a hectic week to be honest.

We all pulled up on Wednesday and the field we all park by had been infested by gypsies. There must have been about 20 caravans on this field so no one was parking nearby. They even had a pony so they we’re defiantly proper gypsies.

The lonely and boring evenings have kicked in a little which suck so I just end up down the marina McDonald comfort eating and faffing in Asda looking at clothes and ‘housey’ stuff like any true woman. House hunting is still driving me up the wall, Brighton is so expensive it costs a fortune to find a studio apartment to rent for 3 months…

At the end of the day though I still look forward to that horrible drive home Friday afternoon just to spent the weekend at home. This weekend on the other hand is going to be a different story. I’ve got my first night out in Brighton with the girls this weekend which I’m pretty excited about and as uni is starting this week, friends from home that are going to Brighton uni are coming down this weekend for freshers week so hopefully things won’t be so lonely any more.

Now what, tee-line or law homework, decisions decisions….
